The town of Vodice is among biggest tourist resorts of Šibenik riviera situated near coast in a broad bay 12 km away from the town of Šibenik. According to archaeological finds it was established that people lived here in Roman age when the place was called Araus, or Arausa Antonina.
First written monument of Vodice dates back to 1402 and its name was mentioned in relation to obligatory contributions for the intended building of St. Jacob. The church of St. Križ on the old cemetery was erected in 1421 and a baroque parish church of the same name was built in the town center 1746.
In 1664 for the purpose of defense against Turks Vodice was fortified with strong walls and towers and two bridges leading to the town were also erected. The only one remaining of these fortifications is the tower of Ćorić made of treated stone
During Turk attacks the refugees formed a colony on the hill of Okit and in 1660 on the top of that hill the chapel of Gospa od Milosrđa (Our Lady of Mercy) was erected.
Vodice has an abundant tourist offer in the old town center, as well as in new parts of the town where one can find restaurants, discotheques, bars, shops and supermarkets.
Vodice has also a rich offer of culture and entertainment in nightclubs. Dalmatian harmony-singing groups, folk ensembles, famous singers and groups, as well as various artistic theatre groups perform on squares and summer stages. Life in Vodice never comes to a halt.
